OSU FOOTBALL Tressel suspends Reynolds one game after incident

The action came after he injured Wisconsin quarterback Jim Sorgi.
COLUMBUS (AP) -- Ohio State senior linebacker Robert Reynolds was suspended one game Monday for jamming his fingers into the throat of Wisconsin quarterback Jim Sorgi and choking him.
Reynolds will miss the eighth-ranked Buckeyes' homecoming game Saturday against No. 9 Iowa at Ohio Stadium, coach Jim Tressel said.
Sorgi said he had difficulty talking and breathing after the injury in the third quarter of Wisconsin's 17-10 win Saturday night. He said he couldn't bark out the signals loud enough to be heard by the other players, keeping him from going back into the game.
Reynolds apologizes
Reynolds issued a statement Sunday night through Ohio State, saying that he had apologized to Sorgi and Wisconsin coach Barry Alvarez.
Tressel said that Reynolds was "sincerely sorry" for his actions and that his conduct was completely out of character for the second-year starter.
"However, after getting a firsthand look at the tape and seeing what took place, I feel that the apology by itself is not enough," Tressel said. "Robert's conduct was totally unacceptable and has no place in intercollegiate athletics."
Tressel said he had informed Alvarez of his decision to suspend Reynolds and again apologized to Sorgi.
Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany said Reynolds' actions "have no place in our game."
Holds no grudge
Sorgi said he accepted Reynolds' apology and he's not holding any grudges. He expects to practice this week and play Saturday when the No. 14 Badgers play host to No. 13 Purdue.
"I know how things get during the game, and I know how things can happen," Sorgi said. "He made a mistake. It's a sign of a man when you can make a mistake like that and call and apologize for it."
After Sorgi was knocked out against the Buckeyes, backup quarterback Matt Schabert came in to throw a 79-yard touchdown pass to Lee Evans that ended the defending national champion's 19-game winning streak.
