National City Bank sets Dec. 30 as date to close Struthers branch

STRUTHERS -- National City Bank is closing its branch at 130 Bridge St. in downtown Struthers and transferring its four employees to other offices.
Spokesman Bill Eiler said the bank continually evaluates its branches and considers several factors when deciding to consolidate or add new branches. The closing will take effect Dec. 30.
Eiler said customers can use National City's other Struthers office at 1000 Youngstown-Poland Road, which is two miles away from the downtown branch, or the Campbell Road branch, which is three miles away. Both offices have drive-through service, he said, while the downtown office does not.
National City owns the Bridge Street building and plans to put it up for sale.
The company has invested about $5.5 million in new branches and branch renovations in the past three years, Eiler said. Recent projects have included construction of a new Poland branch two years ago and renovations at its Newport Glen, Hubbard and Youngstown-Poland Road offices.
