GROVE CITY COLLEGE 4 to get alumni awards at homecoming event



Activities are set for 7:30 p.m. Friday in Harbison Chapel.
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The head of a Philadelphia charitable institution, a community medicine director and a federal judge are the recipients of the 2003 Alumni Achievement Awards at Grove City College.
Lissa G. Hilsee (Class of 1980), Dr. David J. Jones ('54) and Judge Arthur J. Schwab ('68) will be presented with the 40th annual awards during homecoming activities at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Harbison Chapel.
J. Paul Sticht ('39), former chairman of the board of trustees, will be presented with this year's Alumni Distinguished Service Award, an honor created in 1999 to recognize an individual who has made a significant contribution to the college.
Backgrounds
Hilsee, who received an economics and sociology degree from Grove City College, is co-founder, president and chief executive officer of Philadelphia Cares, an organization of 13 staff members and 10,000 volunteers addressing the critical social, educational and environmental needs of the Greater Philadelphia region.
She chairs the Public Policy Committee of City Cares of America, and, in 2000, was selected by the German Marshall Fund as an American Memorial Marshall Fellow. She is also a Big Sister.
Jones graduated with honors from Grove City College with a degree in chemistry. He went on to medical school at Thomas Jefferson University and later received a master's degree in hospital administration from the University of Pittsburgh. He served as director of community medicine at York (Pa.) Hospital and as associate professor of medicine at the University of Maryland. He also served as vice president of medical affairs for Pennsylvania Blue Shield.
A medical director for the Harrisburg-based All-Health, Jones has been honored with a Milbank Faculty Fellowship and the Distinguished Service Award from the American College of Medical Quality. His wife, Anne (Butler), is also from the Class of 1954.
Schwab graduated with a degree in business administration. He received his juris doctorate from the University of Virginia in 1972 and served as a partner and litigation chairman for Buchanan Ingersoll in Pittsburgh before being nominated by President Bush for a judgeship in the U.S. District Court for the western district of Pennsylvania. He was sworn into office January 2003.
Judge Schwab also serves on the Grove City College Board of Trustees and has taught as an adjunct professor.
Sticht was named to the Grove City College Board of Trustees in 1963, leading the board as chairman from 1998 to 2003. He is also a former member of the Alumni Council.
In addition to his career with Federated Department Stores, R.J. Reynolds Co. and RJR Nabisco, Sticht has maintained a lifelong connection with his alma mater.
A reception honoring these four recipients will follow the ceremony in Mary Anderson Pew Great Hall. Both the ceremony and reception are open to the public.
