COLUMBIANA Company identifies worker who died after accident

COLUMBIANA -- Officials of Marucci & amp; Gaffney Excavating Inc. of Youngstown have identified the worker killed in a construction accident on Railroad Street as Richard Repp, 45, of Youngstown.
Marucci & amp; Gaffney is the general contractor for a sewer construction project in Columbiana.
Police said Repp was working in a trench about 10:30 a.m. Monday when a bucket came off a backhoe and struck him. He was taken by helicopter to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, where he later died.
City Manager Keith Chamberlin said the crews were digging the trench for sewer lines under railroad tracks near Columbiana Pump Co.
He said work should continue as scheduled. The construction project will extend sewer service to homes and businesses along state Route 14 and state Route 7.
Atty. Alan D. Wenger, company spokesman, said company officials don't believe the accident was related to any problems with the design of the project, so work should continue.
Numerous agencies are investigating the accident, which is normal in such circumstances, he said.
