Worker hurt in Columbiana dies of injuries



COLUMBIANA -- A worker injured while digging a trench on Railroad Street has died.
The man, whose name has not yet been released, died in St. Elizabeth Health Center of injuries suffered Monday on a job site in Columbiana.
Police said the man, who was in his 40s, was an employee of Marucci & amp; Gaffney Excavating Inc. of Youngstown. The company has the contract to install new sewer lines in the city.
Police said the man was working in a trench on railroad street digging under railroad tracks to install new sewer lines for the city around 10:30 a.m. Workers had just changed a bucket on a backhoe and the bucket came off, striking the man, who was working in a trench 8 feet deep.
He was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center by helicopter from nearby Firestone Park, police said.
