ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Ladislav Nagy scored in the first period, and goaltender Sean Burke made that stand up. Nagy scored on a power play at 9:27 of the opening period, his first goal and second point in the Coyotes' two games. Daymond Langkow added an empty-net goal with five seconds remaining. Burke stopped 31 shots to earn the 34th save of his career, thwarting the Ducks on five power plays. Anaheim is off to an 0-3 start for only the second time in club history. They also lost their first three games in 1998-99.
Sharks 3, Wild 2
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Alyn McCauley's power-play score sparked a three-goal flurry by San Jose over the final four minutes of the first period. Christoph Brandner got his first career goal to give Minnesota a 1-0 lead 6:24 into the game before McCauley's goal started San Jose's spurt. Just 37 seconds later, Mike Ricci redirected a pass from Scott Thornton past Wild goaltender Dwayne Roloson to give the Sharks the lead. Patrick Marleau's power-play goal with 9.9 seconds remaining in the first gave San Jose a 3-1 advantage. Rookie Brent Burns scored his first career goal 4:22 into the second period to pull Minnesota within a goal.
Kings 4, Blackhawks 2
CHICAGO -- Trent Klatt scored two goals 33 seconds apart in the second period. Klatt's goals midway through the period gave the Kings a 3-0 lead and helped Los Angeles win its second straight game. The Kings' Lubomir Visnovsky scored a power-play goal in the first period and Jaroslav Modry added an insurance goal with 3:31 remaining in the third. Chicago's Mark Bell and Kyle Calder scored power-play goals to cut the score to 3-2, but Chicago dropped its second straight. Los Angeles goaltender Roman Cechmanek stopped 32 shots. Chicago's Jocelyn Thibault made 22 saves, including one on a penalty shot by Esa Pirnes in the second period.
Blues 2, Avalanche 1
DENVER -- Keith Tkachuk scored a pair of goals to become the 74th NHL player to score 400 and Chris Osgood stopped 39 shots. Tkachuk, who has all three goals for the Blues this year, recorded his 400th goal in the first period and the game-winner at 6:47 of the third period. Doug Weight and Pavol Demitra each had an assist, and the Blues killed six power plays in winning for the first time this year. Paul Kariya scored his second goal in as many games for the Avalanche, who were 1-for-7 on the power play.
