Grant to help rehabilitate Gibson House
JAMESTOWN, Pa. -- The Jamestown Future Foundation Inc. is getting a $17,500 state grant to help rehabilitate the Gibson House on Liberty Street.
The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and history has it that Mark Twain once stayed there as a guest of the Gibson family.
The money from the Keystone Historic Preservation program will be used to replace the roof and gutters on the 1856 landmark, said Sen. Robert Robbins of Greenville, R-50th, and Rep. Rod Wilt of Greenville, R-17th, who announced the grant award.
The Jamestown Future Foundation Inc. is a nonprofit organization spearheading the Gibson House rehabilitation effort, seeking to make it a cultural center and focal point of the community's economic revitalization.
