Author to speak about terrorism to YSU audience

YOUNGSTOWN -- Benjamin Barber, who wrote "Jihad vs. McWorld," a piece in the anthology, "Confronting Fear: A History of Terrorism," will speak at Youngstown State University at 7 p.m. Oct. 22 in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center.
The anthology is part of the Freshman Readers Dialogue, a program for YSU freshmen with activities scheduled for the entire academic year based on the book edited by Isaac Cronin.
Barber, author of 17 books, is the Gershon and Carol Kekst Professor of Civil Society at the University of Maryland. The political theorist's article "Our War's Mistaken Premise" recently appeared on the op-ed page of The Washington Post. He also participated in a forum in Time magazine about how the U.S. occupation of Iraq has made it a magnet for terrorism.
Barber's latest book, "Fear's Empire: Terrorism, War and Democracy," will be released this fall.
