Title I to be topicof meeting at Choffin
YOUNGSTOWN -- Parents with children in Youngstown public and private schools are invited to a meeting to discuss Title I from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Choffin Career and Technical Center, 200 E. Wood St. Title I is a federal program that funds various services such as counselors, tutors, computers and teachers, as well as classes in literacy, language, GED and a family resource center.
Events include a brief discussion on children's nutrition from Denise Neal of Children's Hunger Alliance, displays, demonstrations, refreshments and a raffle. Children are welcome.
4 appointed trusteesof First Night board
YOUNGSTOWN -- First Night Youngstown has appointed four people to its board of trustees.
They are: Gerald Beulah Jr., of Youngstown, a local musician; Jamael Brown of Youngstown, a community organizer with Youngstown State University's Center for Urban and Regional Studies; Talut Rasul of Youngstown, executive director of the North Side Citizens' Coalition; and Mary Isa Garayua of Campbell, executive director of Organizacion Civica y Cultural Hispana Americana in Youngstown.
First Night is a family-oriented, alcohol-free annual New Year's event downtown that features arts and entertainment.
Beaver Twp. Crime Watch
NORTH LIMA -- The monthly Beaver Township Crime Watch meeting will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 21 at Shepherd of the Valley's activity center on Western Reserve Road.
The speakers from the Beaver Township Fire Department will discuss fire safety in the home and tips for survival. The block watch also will discuss local crime statistics.
