Canfield nips Salem in overtime, 43-42



CANFIELD -- Junior quarterback Jamie McNally found Jordan Ferns for a two-point conversion in overtime to lead Canfield to a 43-42 extra-session win over Salem Friday.
McNally ran 16 times for 123 yards and a 47-yard touchdown and he hit on nine of 16 passes for 109 yards and a score for the Cardinals (3-5, 2-3 Metro Athletic Conference).
McNally's highlights overshadowed the highlight reel effort of Salem quarterback Landon Heath.
Heath was 27-for-41 passing for 348 yards and three touchdowns for the Quakers (3-5, 2-3).
Jarin Heath caught 14 passes for 156 yards and Zac Grey pulled in eight aerials for 130 yards for Salem.
Chris Pankewicz scored on runs of 17, 9 and 14 yards for Canfield which led 35-20 in the fourth quarter. He finished with 16 runs for 119 yards.
Salem scored first in overtime to go up 42-35. Then, McNally hit Angelo Babbaro with a 5-yard touchdown before finding Ferns for the winning conversion.
