Lightning 5, Bruins 1
TAMPA, Fla. -- Cory Stillman had two power-play goals and an assist in his debut with Tampa Bay, leading the Lightning over the Boston Bruins. Stillman, acquired from St. Louis for a 2003 second-round draft pick last June, opened the scoring just 1:54 into the game and later made it 3-0 on his second goal at 8:05 of the second period. Dmitri Afanasenkov, Brad Richards and Tim Taylor had the other Tampa Bay goals. P.J. Axelsson scored for Boston. Stillman's first-period goal from the slot came off a pass from behind the net by Martin St. Louis. Tampa Bay broke it open with three second-period goals. The Lightning went up 2-0 on when Afanasenkov scored on a rebound at 2:52. Stillman scored from the low slot following a drop pass by Vincent Lecavalier. Richards extended the lead to 4-0 on Tampa Bay's third power-play goal of the game at 15:51. Richards also had two assists and has 201 points in 245 career games. Axelsson ended Tampa Bay goalie Nikolai Khabibulin's bid for his 33rd career shutout with 9:50 left in the third period. The Lightning got the goal back when Taylor scored at 12:33. Boston goalie Felix Potvin was pulled after allowing four goals on 20 shots through two periods. He was replaced by Andrew Raycroft.
Wild 5, Rangers 3
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Brad Bombardir capped a crazy second period with the go-ahead goal to give the Minnesota Wild their first victory ever over the Rangers. The Rangers had won the five previous meetings with the Wild, including three at Xcel Energy Center. Alexander Daigle scored with 3:07 remaining on Minnesota's only shot of the third period to put the game away. Daigle was trying to pass to Willie Mitchell on a two-on-one, but the puck glanced off the shaft of New York defenseman Tom Poti's stick and past goalie Mike Dunham. The Rangers outshot the Wild 28-19 (including 10-1 in the final period), but they were scoreless on eight power-play chances.
