Right-hand rings being fingered as sign of female empowerment

NEW YORK (AP) -- It's been said that a woman's best accessory is a handsome man on her arm, but now that good-looking guy has a rival: the right-hand ring.
Unlike left-hand rings, often of the diamond "I'm engaged" variety, rings worn on the right hand are supposed to be a sign of female empowerment that shop for and pay for themselves.
Several fashion designers are buying into the trend. The right-hand rings were featured on several runways during New York Fashion Week.
Some examples:
UBehnaz Sarafpour partnered with Kwiat Diamonds to create a ring that features the geometric patterns she uses in her garments.
UEveningwear designer Carmen Marc Valvo worked with Vivid Collection to create a 10-carat, one-of-a-kind emerald-cut diamond ring to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the 7th on Sixth-sponsored tents at Fashion Week. The diamond sits on four prongs shaped in the eye of a needle.
UFred Leighton unveiled a collection of right-hand rings inspired by early 20th century diamond brooches at the Badgley Mischka show.
UBetsey Johnson chose stacked diamond pendant rings and wraparound rings by Lorraine E. Schwartz to complement her flirty frocks.
