Group to light a fire for school construction

AUSTINTOWN -- A bonfire rally will kick off activities at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Austintown Middle School to build support for two issues on the November ballot that will provide money for Austintown schools.
The two are a school operating levy and a loan through a bond issue. They would provide funds for construction of a new middle school.
The new school will be built on vacant land near Fitch High School and the new public library.
The community bonfire is the first of several events planned by the Campaign Leadership Committee for Austintown Local Schools, which is composed of township residents working to support the school system.
The Fitch High School band, dance line and cheerleaders will provide entertainment.
Upcoming events include guided tours through Austintown Middle School with door prizes at 7 p.m. Oct. 21, and a turkey dinner for senior citizens at Fitch at 4 p.m. Oct. 29 -- the Fitch concert choir and jazz band will provide entertainment and door prizes will be awarded.
Flu shots will also be available for $15 each during the dinner. To reserve a flu shot, call Jan Gorsuch, R.N., (330) 797-3900 ext. 1005.
