Area women to be feted during awards banquet



Twelve women will be recognized for their community and professional service.
BOARDMAN -- The YWCA of Youngstown will honor 12 area women as Women of the Year at its 26th anniversary awards banquet to be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 22 at Mr. Anthony's on South Avenue.
For the first time, the awards will recognize outstanding women in two categories, Women of Achievement and Women of Professional Excellence.
To qualify
Women of Achievement honorees were nominated by area businesses and organizations and selected by a panel of judges. These women serve as role models and mentors to other women and have had a positive impact on the community through volunteer participation in civic, business or religious organizations.
Women of Professional Excellence, who were selected by their employers based on outstanding contributions they have made to their organizations, reflect the impact and commitment women make in their professional lives.
The keynote speaker for the evening will be Betty Jo Licata, dean of Warren P. Williamson College of Business Administration at Youngstown State University.
The purpose
Proceeds of the event will benefit the programs and services of the YWCA, including child care, housing for homeless women and children, support groups and wellness programs. For ticket information call (330) 746-6361.
Chris Gabrick of Schroedel, Scullin & amp; Bestic, is event chairwoman, and the co-chairwoman is Susan M. Moorer of Leadership Mahoning Valley. Assisting are Constance Shaffer, YWCA executive director, and Ruth Bradshaw, human resource director with the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County and president of the YWCA board of directors.
