GIRARD -- State Route 11 between Interstate 80 and state Route 82 will have various lane restrictions maintained by flaggers until Wednesday.
Road work will continue daily from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., according to the District 4 office of the Ohio Department of Transportation, which did not announce the restrictions until this morning.
Man pleads innocentin arrest caught on tape
WARREN -- A city man, whose arrest made national news, has pleaded innocent to charges of felonious assault on a police officer, possession of drugs and tampering with evidence.
Lyndal Kimble of Kenilworth Avenue entered the pleas Wednesday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.
Kimble, who was indicted by the grand jury last week, is scheduled to return to court Oct. 15.
His arrest about 1 p.m. June 28 near his home was videotaped by a neighbor. The tape, showing police throwing Kimble to the ground, has been aired on local and national TV news programs.
Engineering firmto study drainage
HOWLAND -- Township trustees have picked an engineering firm to study how drainage can be improved. URS, a firm with 25,000 employees nationwide, was selected Wednesday from 11 companies that submitted credentials, said Trustee Rick Clark.
Company officials will sit down with township representatives to decide on the scope of a study.
Trustees also hired Michael Spatar, an eight-year veteran of the Trumbull County Sheriff's Department, to become the township police department's 20th officer. His salary will be paid by a federal grant. The trustees also bought a new cruiser for $19,000 to replace one damaged in an accident several weeks ago. The insurance settlement for the accident was $16,700, officials said.
Man pleads guiltyin theft from fair
GIRARD -- One of two men charged with stealing big-ticket items from the Canfield Fair has pleaded guilty.
Jason W. Deshetler, 22, of Stoneybrooke Drive, Hubbard Township, pleaded guilty Wednesday to two reduced misdemeanor theft charges before municipal Judge Michael A. Bernard.
He was given a suspended 180-day jail sentence, fined $100, placed on one year's probation and was ordered to make about $350 in restitution. Hubbard Township police Detective Mike Begeot said a hot tub and gas grill were recovered from his mobile home.
Accused of being Deshetler's partner in the thefts, Jason Graham, 24, of Joan Street, Girard, has been bound over to the Trumbull County grand jury.
Man to appearon drug charges
MINERAL RIDGE -- A Weathersfield Township man whose home was raided by police early last month was to appear in Niles Municipal Court today on drug charges. Richard Shaffer, 45, of Salt Springs Road, is charged with a felony count of illegally manufacturing drugs and disorderly conduct. Police seized more than $250,000 worth of marijuana and a hydroponic growing system from Shaffer's home Sept. 9, records show. No charges were filed at the time because Shaffer was hospitalized for an illness. Police reports indicate he seemed to be hallucinating at the time of the raid, saying there were people hiding under his couch and bed. Besides the plants and growing system, police confiscated a 12-gauge shotgun, plastic bags and scales.
Threatening letter
WARREN -- The Republican candidate for mayor says he received a threatening letter telling him if he wins the November election he "will be dead." Randy Law says he got the letter Wednesday at home.
The letter, which was handwritten but not signed, told Law to drop out of the race.
Law told police he has no idea who mailed the letter and he does not plan to drop out of the race.
