PREP SOCCER JFK beats Chaney 6-0 for 10th win
The Eagles finished the regular season with their best record ever.
WARREN -- Junior Anthony Olive had three goals while senior Russ Accordino, junior Kyle Schimley and senior Jon Moffett each had one, as Warren Kennedy High defeated Chaney, 6-0, in a boys soccer game Wednesday.
Warren JFK finished the regular season with a 10-4-1 record, which represents the school's best-ever regular season mark.
Junior Brian Cullivan had two assists while senior Quinn Macali, freshman Ed Hazboun and junior Jeff Jenkins had an assist apiece for the Eagles.
Jeff Asch had 13 saves for Chaney.
JFK begins Division III tournament play Monday, at home against Ursuline at 4:30.
Champion 4, East Liverpool 0
CHAMPION -- Mike Harrison had two goals to lead Champion (15-1), which is ranked fifth in the state.
John Emery and Zac Wright each had a goal, while Rudy Pekarovic and Pat Roden had assists. Jason Black had two saves and recorded his 12th shutout of the season.
East Liverpool fell to 6-4-3.
Maplewood 5, Lordstown 0
MECCA -- Senior Brian Hivick had three goals while senior Jeremy Mohorick and freshman Beau Ramsey had one apiece for the Rockets (9-4-2).
Mohorick had two assists while freshman Joe Malvasia and freshman Eric Hartman had one assist apiece.
Maplewood goalie Dustin Flusher, a sophomore, had three saves while Lordstown's Brandon Wickline had 18 stops. Maplewood out-shot Lordstown, 55-7.
Maplewood's final regular season game is at home Saturday against Newton Falls.
Girls
KINSMAN -- Junior Tessa Bonar had two goals while sophomore Shannon Sudon and senior Liz Smith had one goal apiece, as Badger defeated Bristol 4-1.
With a 6-0 Northeast Athletic Conference record, the win decided the NAC title for the Ron Gordon-coached Braves (11-3-1).
Cayla Arnold, a sophomore, had two assists while Hannah Miller, also had sophomore, had one assist for Badger.
Amber Rasmussen had the lone goal for Bristol (9-6, 4-2). Badger's earlier win over Bristol was 5-0.
Badger goalie Liz Smith had 12 saves while Kylie Robertson had 10 saves for Bristol.
Mooney 6, Warren JFK 0
STRUTHERS -- In a battle of seeded teams in the upcoming Youngstown district, Cardinal Mooney beat JFK.
Warren JFK (7-4-4) is the No. 2 seed while Mooney (9-5-1) is third-seeded.
The Cardinals jumped on top with goals in the first half from Kelli Willis and Marisa Simon. Amanda Stanavich assisted on Willis' goal while Simon knocked in a penalty kick.
Mooney then piled on three quick goals in the first seven minutes of the second half. Nomiki Frangopoulos added the first and brought her season-goal tally to 10 while Willis got her second goal of the night before Kelly Burke completed the outburst.
Ten minutes later, Willis completed her hat trick to bring her season total to 24 and her career total to 52. Stanavich and Simon had two assists while Frangopoulos had one.
Veronica Skowron and Natalie Humphreys shared time in Mooney's goal to record the shutout, the team's seventh of the year.
