Gergels celebrate anniversary with family in Florida
XYOUNGSTOWN -- Mr. and Mrs. Peter K. Gergel, 1054 Old Furnace Road, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their family in Orlando, Fla.
The couple renewed their marriage vows Oct. 10 at Blessed Trinity Church in Orlando. The Rev. Joseph Aquino officiated and read a blessing from Monsignor Leo Adamiak, who united the couple in marriage in 1953 at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, where they are members.
Joining the couple for the celebration and a weeklong stay at the oceanside were their sons and daughters-in-law, Gregory and Michelle Gergel of Orlando, the hosts, and Douglas and Juli Gergel of Troy, Mich.; their daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Gergel and David Gilman of New York City; and their two grandchildren.
Mr. Gergel served in the U.S. Air Force Radio Corps during World War II and was a third baseman on the officers' All-Star Baseball Team. He retired from Truscon Division of Republic Steel Corp. in 1986.
Mrs. Gergel, the former Patricia Ann Preksta, worked as a payroll clerk with the DeBartolo Corp. and as office manager with Tasco Insulations Co.
