SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY Lunch added to 'Empty Bowls' charity fund-raiser

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Organizers of the "Empty Bowls" project at Slippery Rock University have responded to increased attendance and requests to expand the program to include a luncheon.
Now in its eighth year, the program provides support to the Slippery Rock Feed My Sheep Food Cupboard and the Butler County Area Agency on Aging. The event will include an 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. lunch and a 5 to 6:30 p.m. dinner on Monday at the University Union. The fund-raising goal is $5,000.
Organizers are the university's Institute for Community, Service-Learning and Nonprofit Leadership. It is also supported by SRU's art students, who craft hundreds of ceramic bowls for participants to take home as a reminder of the nation's hunger problem.
Cost is $5 for students and $10 for nonstudents, including soup made from items donated by local farms and merchants, bread and beverage, and entertainment.
Tickets are available at the door and at campus residence halls, the University Union, the University Bookstore and Slippery Rock True Value.
