Man pleads guiltyin theft from fair
GIRARD -- One of two men charged with stealing big-ticket items from the Canfield Fair has pleaded guilty. Jason W. Deshetler, 22, of Stoneybrooke Drive, Hubbard Township, pleaded guilty Wednesday to two reduced misdemeanor theft charges before municipal Judge Michael A. Bernard. He was fined $100, placed on one year's probation and ordered to make about $350 in restitution. Hubbard Township police said a hot tub and gas grill were recovered from his mobile home. Accused of being Deshetler's partner in the thefts, Jason Graham, 24, of Joan Street, Girard, has been bound over to the Trumbull County grand jury.
Downtown coffee shop
YOUNGSTOWN -- The city's Design Review Commission approved signs for a new coffee shop downtown. The Bean Counter Cafe will be at 47 Federal Plaza, on the ground floor of the Realty Building. The coffee shop is expected to open by Nov. 1, said owner Jason Logero.
Food market robbery
YOUNGSTOWN -- The F & amp;S Food Market on Shehy Street was robbed at gunpoint about 1 p.m. Wednesday. The owner said two men came into the store and one pulled a handgun. The other one took cash from the register and cash from the owner's pockets. The victim struggled, managed to wrest the gun away and fired one shot into the air as the robbers ran, police said.
Brothers plead innocent
YOUNGSTOWN -- Two Pennsylvania brothers accused of roughing up a union representative at a nonunion construction site on West Rayen Avenue will be back in municipal court Oct. 31 for a pretrial hearing. Michael Romano, 37, of Hall Town Road, Wampum, and Thomas Romano, 33, of McClelland Road, New Castle, pleaded innocent at arraignment Wednesday. Both men, employees of Cleveland Asphalt of Bessemer, Pa., are charged with assault and criminal damaging. They are each free on $4,500 bond. Blaine Daugherty III, 31, of Willoughby Hills, Ohio, a member of the Laborers International Union of North America, told police he was videotaping the paving Tuesday when the Romanos beat him.
Two students suspended
YOUNGSTOWN -- Two teenagers received 10-day school suspensions Wednesday in separate events. At Wilson High School, a 14-year-old East Avondale boy pulled the fire alarm, which resulted in an evacuation, police said. At Choffin Career Center, a 16-year-old Magnolia Avenue girl brought a utility knife to school. She will be charged with conveyance of a weapon onto school property. Both students face expulsion hearings, police said.
Rabies vaccinations

North Lima arrest
NORTH LIMA -- Mahoning County deputy sheriffs arrested Jeffrey L. Allen, 50, of South Avenue, North Lima, at his home at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday on a contempt of court warrant charging him with failure to appear in misdemeanor drug court in Canfield, and on a charge of possession of heroin. Deputies said they found suspected heroin on him.
Firefighter honored
NEW SPRINGFIELD -- Springfield Township trustees honored Al Rivalsky, a township firefighter and EMS volunteer, who created a training program for the fire department's Explorer Post for youths ages 13 to 18, and has contributed 348 hours of volunteer service. He has been a member of the fire department for 7 1/2 years.
Route 11 lane restrictions
GIRARD -- State Route 11 between Interstate 80 and state Route 82 will have various lane restrictions until Wednesday. Road work will continue daily from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Ohio Department of Transportation said today.
