Cardinals: Emmitt Smith has a broken left shoulder blade and will be sidelined indefinitely. The injury occurred early in the second quarter of Sunday's loss to Dallas when he was tackled by Roy Williams. Coach Dave McGinnis said X-rays taken Monday revealed the injury was more serious than originally thought. After the game, the Cardinals said Smith had only a sprained shoulder. Team orthopedist Russell Chick found the break to the scapula in the back of Smith's shoulder after a more thorough examination. Marcel Shipp, who led the Cardinals in rushing last season, will take over as the starter.
Bills: Wide receiver Eric Moulds' groin was still sore Monday, a day after he strained it when he was tackled following a catch near the end of Sunday's win against Cincinnati. His status for next Sunday's game with the New York Jets was uncertain.
Chiefs: Coach Dick Vermeil said a clipping call could have been made during Dante Hall's 93-yard punt return that beat Denver. The penalty would have nullified the game-winning touchdown. The coach said it depends on the angle from which the play is viewed to determine if Julian Battle hit his man on the back or shoulder.
Jets: Quarterback Chad Pennington threw about 50 times in 20 minutes Monday -- his first tosses since dislocating and breaking his left wrist in a preseason game. The Jets are 0-4 without Pennington, who has been replaced by 39-year-old Vinny Testaverde. Pennington, who had seven pins removed from his left hand and wrist about 10 days ago, isn't expected back until the Jets' Nov. 9 game in Oakland at the earliest. Also, defensive end John Abraham, arrested last week for drunken driving and sent home to South Carolina, wasn't at practice. Coach Herman Edwards expected Abraham at practice today, but his status for Sunday's game against Buffalo wasn't clear.
Dolphins: Linebacker Junior Seau has a strained left hamstring and initially will be listed as questionable for Sunday's game at Jacksonville. Seau underwent tests Monday for an injury that happened in the fourth quarter of the Dolphins' win over the Giants. Coach Dave Wannstedt said Monday that Seau will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis. Tommy Hendricks would start if Seau can't play.
Falcons: Quarterback Michael Vick said Monday he was in too much pain to jog on a treadmill, a goal he set for himself last week. According to team trainer Ron Medlin, Vick walked quickly on a treadmill Saturday, but was unable to jog. Vick has been out since breaking his right leg in a preseason game Aug. 16. Vick was to try to walk on the treadmill again today, but has all but ruled out trying to play next Monday night against the Rams.
Giants: Less than 24 hours after one of the best games of his career, New York Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey criticized fans. "Give up on us if you want to," said Shockey, who tied his career best with 11 catches for 110 yards. "If you want to leave, leave! Leave the game! Don't even come to the game! Give your tickets away!"
Redskins: Tight end Byron Chamberlain was signed Monday, a week after he was cut by Minnesota after returning out of shape from a drug suspension. To make room for Chamberlain, the Redskins released tight end Zeron Flemister. Chamberlain was suspended for the first four games after testing positive for the stimulant ephedra -- a violation of the NFL's policy on banned substances. He said he was unaware he had been using a product that contained ephedra.
Titans: Cornerback Samari Rolle will miss three to six weeks with a dislocated and fractured left elbow. Rolle was hurt on New England's opening drive. He wore a sling Monday in the locker room and said he hopes to return before the team's bye week, which comes Nov. 2.
Cowboys: Rookie tight end Jason Witten had surgery to repair his broken jaw Monday. Witten got hurt when he was hit by two Arizona linebackers at the end of an 8-yard catch. He's doubtful for Sunday's game against Philadelphia.
Ravens: Wide receiver Dedric Ward was signed to a one-year contract Monday. He's expected to bolster the Ravens' passing game, as well as their special teams. Ward, cut by New England at the close of training camp, said he signed a deal for the veteran minimum -- $655,000 for a player with seven years of NFL experience. The Ravens waived cornerback Alvin Porter to sign Ward.
Broncos: Defensive tackle Daryl Gardener was released from the hospital Monday morning after spending most of the weekend there with strep throat. Gardener has been out all season due to wrist surgery and hoped to return for Sunday's game against Kansas City, but he was sent home Wednesday with a high fever. Gardener's illness didn't get better as the week progressed and he checked himself into the hospital over the weekend. Coach Mike Shanahan wasn't sure if Gardener would be ready to go this Sunday against Pittsburgh. Also, quarterback Jake Plummer has a bruised shoulder and a sprained foot, and didn't know if he'd be able to practice Wednesday.
