NBA Cavs' Wagner to miss exhibition opener tonight against Pistons

Last year's first round pick is still bothered by a knee injury.
CLEVELAND (AP) -- Guard Dajuan Wagner will miss the Cleveland Cavaliers' exhibition opener and possibly the start of the regular season, too.
Wagner, sidelined since the first day of training camp with a swollen right knee, was scheduled to visit sports orthopedist James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., today for a second opinion on his injured knee.
Cavaliers general manager Jim Paxson said team physician Richard Parker was to accompany Wagner to see the Andrews.
"After having the weekend to think about it, we wanted to have another set of eyes to take a look at the film [X-rays and MRI results] on Dajuan's knee," Paxson said.
Paxson declined to comment when asked if more surgery had been recommended for Wagner, who missed the final 20 games last season after having torn cartilage removed from his knee.
Paxson said it's too early to put a timetable on when Wagner might return.
Injury-riddled season
Wagner, a first-round selection in the 2002 draft, had an injury-riddled rookie season for Cleveland. He missed the entire preseason and the first 14 regular season games after being hospitalized with a bladder infection.
The Cavaliers were hoping for big things this season from Wagner, a prolific scorer in high school and college, but those plans are now on hold.
"He's down, and naturally so," said coach Paul Silas. "This thing was unfortunate. He was well when he first came out for camp. Hopefully, he'll come back and give us boost."
Meanwhile, the Cavaliers opened practice to the media on Monday as they prepared for their preseason opener tonight in Detroit.
James is ready
Rookie LeBron James will start and is expected to play most of the first half.
"I'm ready," said James, who isn't worried about getting any rough treatment from one of the NBA's best defensive teams. "I can take whatever."
James said there is only one thing he wants to accomplish as he and his young teammates begin the preseason.
"Victories," he said. "We want to win. Our coach said he's a winner, I'm a winner. Winning is everything."
