City says, 'Submitplan or face fine'
CORTLAND -- A developer was given a seven-day grace period to submit revised drainage plans for Laura Lane and Anthony Circle to the city, or face fines of $100 per day.
The new neighborhood in Shepherds Hill was prone to flooding over the summer, and the city's consultant found drainage plans were not followed. "The only thing that land was ever fit for was ducks," acting Service Director Richard Moy told a handful of residents at Monday's council meeting.
The developer, Anthony Petrocco, retained A.C. Charnas & amp; Associates, Warren, to make recommendations to alleviate flooding. But a 30-day deadline for plans set by council has passed.
Moy indicated, based on speaking with the developer, that the city may hear something this week; if not, council said the $100 daily fines would start in seven days. The plans will be reviewed by the city's consultant, MS Consultants Inc., Youngstown. Council's vote on the seven-day ultimatum was unanimous. A special meeting on this and other business is set for 6:30 p.m. Monday before a council work session.
Covered bridge repairs
NEWTON FALLS -- The project to restore the Newton Falls covered bridge will begin Nov. 12.
On Monday, city council announced an informational meeting on the project from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 12 at the Newton Falls Community Center.

Those attending the meeting are urged to bring anything that will help the engineers restore the bridge to its original look. This includes photos and descriptions residents might have.
The bridge has been slated for restoration since early this year. The work could begin as early as next summer, officials said. The span is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Newton Falls will be awarded a $1.6 million grant from the County Engineers Association of Ohio for the restoration.
