Home-court advantage: Fitch wins Federal
AUSTINTOWN -- It took 12 total matches, but the host Austintown Fitch High volleyball team reigned over the Federal League after winning the tournament championship Saturday.
The Falcons defeated Canton McKinley 15-2, 15-8 in the title match, after wins over Canton GlenOak (15-5, 15-3) and Massillon Perry (15-11, 15-3).
Leading Fitch against the Bulldogs were Maggie Case with 24 digs and nine kills; Allison Kenney with six points; Stacie Mang with 27 assists; and Rachel Terzak and Jenn Drabison with five blocks each.
North Canton Hoover defeated Massillon Perry in the third-place match 15-5, 15-3; Massillon Jackson defeated Boardman in the fifth-place match 8-15, 15-13, 15-2 and Canton GlenOak defeated Uniontown Lake in the seventh-place match 15-13, 15-12.
Salem 15-15, Crestview 7-7
SALEM -- The Quakers balanced their attack in a victory over Crestview.
Lauren Teal and Jessica Griffith each had five kills and a block for the Quakers (17-4), while Sarah Hamilton added four kills and two blocks and Meredith Miles two kills, three tips and a block.
For Crestview (10-6), Katie Kibby had 12 kills and five blocks and Lindsay Sapp 17 assists and three blocks.
