IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Nathan Chandler threw for two touchdowns and ran for another Saturday as No. 23 Iowa rallied from an early 14-point deficit to beat No. 9 Michigan, 30-27.
Iowa (5-1, 1-1 Big Ten) trailed 14-0 in the first quarter before rallying with 20 straight points and held on for the victory.
The Hawkeye defense, after being picked apart by Michigan quarterback John Navarre for 224 yards in the first half, allowed just five first downs in the final two quarters.
Michigan (4-2, 1-1) made it exciting at the end as Navarre threw a 41-yard TD pass to Braylon Edwards with 3:43 remaining, cutting Iowa's lead to 30-27.
The Wolverines then forced an Iowa punt, and Navarre marched Michigan across midfield with less than two minutes to go.
But three consecutive incomplete passes sealed the victory, Iowa's second straight over the Wolverines.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Jerod Void ran for a career-high 119 yards and four touchdowns as Purdue rolled .
The Boilermakers (4-1, 1-0 Big Ten) have won four straight overall and seven straight conference openers under Joe Tiller, who became just the second Purdue coach to win 50 games.
The Illini (1-5, 0-2) lost their fourth straight and were beaten by Purdue for the first time since 1998.
But on a day when everything seemed to go right for the Boilermakers, Void finally produced the breakout game Purdue had hoped for.
He carried 25 times, broke free routinely, frequently gaining yards in huge chunks.
From the start, it was no contest.
Purdue had eight first downs on its first 15 plays and 212 total yards in the first quarter.
By halftime, the Boilermakers already had 200 yards rushing, 378 total yards, had scored on four of six possessions and led 27-3.
No. 21 Minnesota 42,Northwestern 17
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Minnesota scarcely resembled the Big Ten's highest-scoring team for much of the first half, failing to manage a single first down against lowly Northwestern for more than 21 minutes.
Then the 21st-ranked Gophers struck suddenly, on a game-changing 96-yard bomb from Asad Abdul-Khaliq to Jared Ellerson, and didn't stop on their way to a 42-17 victory.
Abdul-Khaliq threw for three touchdowns and Marion Barber III ran for two as Minnesota improved to 6-0 (2-0 Big Ten) for the first time in 43 years heading into a Friday night matchup at home against No. 9 Michigan.
The nation's third-leading rushing team produced 241 yards on the ground, 43 yards below its season average. But the passing attack keyed a big-play offense, carrying the Gophers to 572 total yards despite the slow start.
Abdul-Khaliq, the Big Ten's leader in passing efficiency, missed on four of his first five passes before finishing 12-for-17 for 331 yards.
Two of his TDs came on fly patterns to Ellerson -- the school-record 96-yarder and another for 82 yards.

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Jeff Smoker is making the most of his second chance.
Smoker tied a Michigan State record with 32 completions and accounted for three touchdowns for the Spartans.
Smoker finished 32-of-40 for 351 yards with two TDs, a rushing score and no interceptions.
He tied the school mark for completions set by John Leister, who threw 46 passes in a loss to Michigan in 1982. It was Smoker's third 300-yard game this season and the seventh of the senior's tumultuous career.
Smoker increased his team records to 510 career completions on 858 attempts for 7,044 yards and 50 TDs.
Michigan State (5-1, 2-0 Big Ten) has won three straight games in a season for the first time since starting 3-0 in 2000.
The Hoosiers (1-5, 0-2) lost their 11th straight road game, dating to a win at Michigan State on Nov. 10, 2001.
