MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE Kent State can't hold early lead; Miami QB passes team past Zips

KENT -- Talmadge Hill threw two touchdown passes as Ball State scored the final 20 points to beat Kent State 34-17 Saturday.
Kent State (3-3, 2-1 Mid-American Conference) took a 17-14 lead midway through the second quarter on Darrell Dowery's 16-yard touchdown pass from Joshua Cribbs. But the Cardinals (3-3, 2-0) dominated the rest of the way.
Hill hit Bryan Williamson on a 41-yard scoring pass in the third quarter as Ball State regained the lead. Brian Jackson added field goals of 41 and 32 yards, sandwiched around Dante Ridgeway's fumble recovery in the end zone.
Hill completed 16 of 27 passes for 164 yards without an interception. He also hit Larry Bostic with a 15-yard TD pass.
The Golden Flashes had more first downs (21-16) and more yards (365-302) than the Cardinals, but lost three fumbles and Cribbs was intercepted once. Cribbs finished 17 of 41 passing for 205 yards.
Kent State built its halftime lead on Kevin Beverly's 10-yard run and Travis Mayle's 46-yard field goal.
Scott Blair, Ball State's leading rusher with 43 yards on 13 carries, scored on a 5-yard run in the second quarter.
Miami 45, Akron 20
OXFORD -- Ben Roethlisberger passed for 369 yards and two touchdowns for Miami.
The RedHawks (4-1, 1-0 Mid-American Conference) led just 24-20 after three quarters, but shut down the Zips (3-3, 2-2) in the fourth while scoring on runs by Roethlisberger, Mike Smith and Ada Ciborowski -- none more than 6 yards.
Roethlisberger was 31-of-47 with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Michael Larkin and a 1-yarder to Smith, both in the second quarter. He also ran for two TDs.
Ryan Busing had seven receptions for 132 yards, and Martin Nance had nine catches for 108 yards. Cal Murray led all rushers with 108 yards on 19 carries as Miami outrushed Akron 184-47.
Charlie Frye went 23-of-42 for 258 yards and two TDs for Akron but was intercepted twice. Mick Sparks had seven catches for 142 yards, including a 57-yarder for a touchdown. Jason Swiger kicked two 36-yard field goals.
Bowling Green 23, Cent. Michigan 3
BOWLING GREEN -- P.J. Pope ran for two touchdowns and Bowling Green racked up 508 total yards.
Pope rushed for 88 yards on 22 carries and scored on a pair of 1-yard runs which began and ended the scoring for the Falcons (4-1, 1-0 Mid-American Conference).
Josh Harris completed 25 of 35 passes for 298 yards, setting up three Shaun Suisham field goals. Suisham converted kicks covering 28, 26 and 25 yards.
Terrence Jackson picked up 123 yards on 28 carries for the Chippewas (2-3, 0-2).
The Falcons dominated the statistics in first downs (31-17), yardage (508-284) and time of possession (by more than 7 minutes).
Bowling Green took the opening kickoff and drove 69 yards in 11 plays capped by Pope's short plunge. Suisham's 28-yard field goal made it 10-0 just before half, with Central Michigan coming back to cover 53 yards in 12 plays resulting in Mike Gruzwalski's 33-yard field goal with 28 seconds left in the second quarter.
Gruzwalski missed kicks from 32 and 23 yards. Suisham also missed two attempts, but converted two kicks in the second half as the Falcons pulled away.
Pope ended up with six catches for 48 yards with teammate Cole Magner adding 66 yards on his six catches.
W. Michigan 31, E. Michigan 3
YPSILANTI, Mich. -- Chad Munson passed for 282 yards and three touchdowns for Western Michigan.
The Broncos entered the game third in the Mid-American Conference in scoring offense at 33 points per game and first in passing yards with 363.5 yards a game, but Eastern held the Broncos to no points and just 93 yards passing in the first half in taking a 3-0 halftime lead.
In the second half, however, the Broncos (3-2, 2-0 MAC) racked up 189 passing yards and 31 points. Munson threw two of his TD passes to wideout Greg Jennings, the first of which was a 34-yard play on the first Broncos possession of the second half, giving Western Michigan a 7-3 lead with 11:30 left in the third quarter.
After a 4-yard touchdown run by Phil Reed made it 14-3 Western with less than six minutes to go in the third, Munson hit Jennings on a 22-yard touchdown pass to give the Broncos a 21-3 lead with 10:23 left in the game.
Jennings finished the game with six receptions for 117 yards and two touchdowns.
Eastern Michigan (1-5, 0-2) was limited to just 134 yards of total offense, including 46 passing yards. The Eagles committed three turnovers and saw quarterback Chinedu Okoro get sacked nine times for 38 yards.
Eagles running back Anthony Sherrell ran for 116 yards on 21 carries, and Andrew Wellock hit the 32-yard field goal that gave Eastern it's only lead at 3-0 with 13:34 left in the second quarter.
UCF 19, Buffalo 10
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Tavaris Capers returned a punt 52 yards for a touchdown and Central Florida's ground game made up for the absence of quarterback Ryan Schneider.
UCF (2-3, 1-1 Mid-American) rushed for 298 yards, the most in coach Mike Kruczek's five-plus seasons. Alex Haynes ran for a career-high 165 yards.
Quarterback Jon Rivera, making his first career start, rushed for 89 yards. He completed 6 of 14 passes for 59 yards, the fewest ever under Kruczek.
Schneider's string of 34 consecutive starts was snapped after suffering a shoulder injury last week in a loss at Kent State.
