Firefighters solicit donations for new truck
TRANSFER, Pa. -- The volunteer fire department has launched a drive to raise $300,000 for a new truck. The goal is to replace a 28-year-old pumper.
The department has begun a two-week door-to-door solicitation in Pymatuning and Delaware townships, the municipalities served by the department, asking for $25 donations for the project.
Those who make the donation will be given a certificate for a family portrait to be taken at the Delmar Drive Fire Station on Oct. 22 or 23. Colorcraft Photography will take the portraits, and the pictures should be back in time for Christmas.
Fire Chief Phil Steele said firefighters began drawing up specifications for the new truck earlier this year and bids are expected in early November.
The plan is to order the new firetruck in December or January, with delivery in June.
Firefighters participating in the fund drive will have proper identification or a letter signed by Steele.
Those not contacted in person can call the station at (724) 646-2659 or Steel directly at (724) 646-2569.
