CITY SERIES Campbell rolls past Wilson for fifth win



The Red Devils capitalized on a pair of Wilson fumbles in the first quarter.
CAMPBELL -- Campbell Memorial scored two quick touchdowns after Woodrow Wilson's fumbles in the first quarter Friday, and the Red Devils won their fourth straight game, 40-14, over the winless Redmen at John Knapick Field.
Campbell (5-2) got two scores from Darrel Johnson on the ground, while Aaron McGuire scored twice on scoring passes from Rick Quinn as the Red Devils scored 20 points off of four Wilson turnovers.
Wilson (0-7) got a 170-yard rushing effort from Gary Scott on 23 carries with one touchdown, while Sean Cook added 66 yards on 16 attempts with a score.
Wilson finished with 271 yards, 256 coming on the ground, as the Redmen ran 51 plays and picked up 20 first downs.
Campbell ran just 30 plays but picked up 314 yards, 220 coming on the ground. The Red Devils picked up 14 first downs.
Johnson led the ground attack with 66 yards on six attempts, while Anthony Zembillas added 62 yards on just four carries. Quinn connected on 4-of-7 passes for 94 yards, two touchdowns, giving him 11 on the season. He suffered one interception.
Campbell scored two times in the first quarter after the Wilson fumbles, with Tee Hymes and Johnson scoring to give the Red Devils a 13-0 lead.
Then, after Cook scored to cut the lead to 13-6, Quinn scored from 5 yards out and then found McQuire for the first time to give the Red Devils a 27-6 lead at halftime.
Two more Campbell scores in the third quarter pushed the lead to 40-6 entering the last quarter.
Chaney 28, Slippery Rock 26
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Cowboys went to 6-1 by using big plays -- two by their defense by way of interception returns for touchdowns and a run from scrimmage of 61 yards by Mike Hall.
Chaney withstood a late Slippery Rock touchdown drive with 18 seconds left, and an errant pass for the two-point conversion that would have tied the score.
What turned out to be the winning score was the 61-yard touchdown run by Hall with 8:43 left in the game. Hall had 103 yards on 13 carries.
The Rockets (5-1) had 18 first downs, 408 yards of total offense, with sophomore quarterback Ben Collins 14-of-30 passing for 195 yards and two touchdowns. Senior tailback Travis Sarver carried the ball 28 times for 136 yards and two touchdowns.
Chaney quarterback Justin Hood suffered a pinched nerve in his neck in the second quarter and did not return to the game.
Canton GlenOak 17, Rayen 6
CANTON -- The Tigers (2-5) clicked on a 55-yard touchdown pass for an early 6-0 lead, but the Golden Eagles (3-4) closed on a 17-0 sprint.
Jason Giannini kicked a 42-yard field goal and Brian Hartline scored on runs of 1 and 2 yards for GlenOak.
Alliance 50, Canton Timken 13
ALLIANCE -- Stephen Hancox rushed for 165 yards on 19 carries, which included touchdown runs of 5, 9, 42 and 28 yards, to spark the Aviators (4-3).
Canton Timken (0-7) was limited to 40 rushing and 77 passing yards.
