Disabilities and fire safety
The Eastern Paralyzed Veterans Association is offering the pamphlet "Wheeling to Fire Safety," which can be obtained by calling (800) 444-0120 or visiting www.unitedspinal.org online. "Wheeling to Fire Safety" stresses planning, practice and prevention to achieve fire safety at home, and has practical tips for people with disabilities.

ROTC
Training at Wick Park
The Army Reserve Officer Training Corps at Youngstown State University is using Wick Park, at Fifth and Park Avenues, for leadership and tactical training from 8:30 to 10 a.m. starting Friday and continuing Oct. 17, 31, and Nov. 7 and 14, and on selected Fridays from January through April 2004. Also, ROTC Ranger and physical fitness training is conducted at Wick Park from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. Fridays through May 28, 2004.
Leadership camp grads
Several Slippery Rock University students graduated from the 32-day Army ROTC's National Advanced Leadership Camp at Fort Lewis, Wash. They include: Russ Eury, Butler, Pa.; Jeff Fields, New Brighton, Pa.; Phil Gryskewicz, Evans City, Pa.; Laura Lubinski, Allison Park, Pa.; Jeremy Linn, Egg Harbor Township, N.J.; Derrell McBroom, East Pittsburgh, Pa.; Stephanie Benedict, St. Marys, Pa.; and Neil Oberlin, Grove City, Pa. After completing the camp, Gryskewicz participated in the Army's Cadet Troop Leadership Training.
ADVANCED TRAINING
Survival skills instructor
Air Force Airman 1st Class David M. Watters, a son of David P. and Linda S. Watters of Cortland, is a survival specialist and instructor at the Air Force Survival School, Fairchild Air Force Base, Wash. His job is to take pilots into the mountains for a few days every two weeks and teach them survival skills. Watters is a 2001 graduate of Lakeview High School, Cortland.
Computer specialist
Air Force Senior Airman Joseph A. Boyd, a son of Joseph and Kathy Boyd of East Liverpool, is one of only seven computer specialists in the Air Force who help maintain mission planning computers for the F-117 Stealth Fighter as part of the 49th Communications Squadron, 49th Fighter Wing. Boyd, a 1997 graduate of Beaver Local High School in Lisbon, has been deployed in the Middle East and is stationed at Holloman Air Force Base, N.M.
Power equipment repair
Army Pvt. Christina R. Williams graduated from the advanced individual training course for power-generation equipment repairers at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. She is a daughter of Kim R. Henderson Ward of Youngstown and David K. Williams of Katy, Texas. Williams is a 2001 graduate of The Rayen School.

Aboard USS Carl Vinson
Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Justin T. Fincham, a son of JoEllen Fincham of Youngstown and Jack Fincham of Columbiana, is aboard the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, which recently visited Pusan, South Korea. Fincham is a 1997 graduate of Chaney High School.
910TH AIRLIFT WING
At air reserve station
VIENNA -- Several area Air Force Reserve members have been assigned to the 910th Airlift Wing at Youngstown Air Reserve Station. They include:
USenior Airman Paula K. Hockett, an information management apprentice. Her mother is Ruth A. Tauchar of East Palestine. Hockett is a 1983 graduate of East Palestine High School.
UStaff Sgt. Richard J. Lawton Jr., a flight engineer helper assigned to the 773rd Airlift Wing. His parents are Richard J. and Mary Jo Lawton of Warren. The staff sergeant is a 1985 graduate of Howland High School.
UAirman Arron J. Witzigman, assigned to the 757th Airlift Squadron. Her sister is Bobbie J. Witzigman of Brookfield.
