Top-seeded players remain alive as tennis tournaments proceed
BOARDMAN -- The top four seeded singles players in the Division II sectional tennis tournament qualified for district competition after play Thursday at Boardman High.
Joining top seed Kim Ezzo of Ursuline in Saturday's sectional semifinals will be second-seeded Erin Bennett of Poland, third-seeded Ashley Hoff of Liberty and fourth-seeded Emily Berry of Struthers.
In the quarterfinals Thursday, Bennett defeated Salem's Megan Goll 6-0, 6-1; Hoff defeated Ravenna's Brooke Buller 6-1, 6-1; and Berry defeated Warren John F. Kennedy's Hilary Rossi 6-3, 6-3.
Ezzo had qualified for the semis Wednesday.
Division I
MASSILLON -- Along with Canfield singles players Renee Lesnett and Rachel McGowan, the Boardman doubles team of Kristin McNally and Tiffany Kreps advanced to Saturday's quarterfinals of the Division I tennis sectional at Jackson High School's courts.
Fitch players Shannon Arcade, Samantha Schneider and Sarah Moran lost. Arcade, a senior, and Schneider, a sophomore, won their first two rounds before falling in the third.
Boardman's Jennifer Janis and Janet Beraduce were eliminated in singles, while Fitch's doubles teams of Jordan Wallace-Amanda Lane and Tara Miller-Christine Ortenzio and Boardman's doubles duo of Brooke Katzman-Kathryn Yazvac were ousted in doubles.
