A rundown of planned Halloween festivities:
MAHONING COUNTY
Haunted Hayride of Doom: Future site of 2 Worlds Parks Return to Idora, 1/4 mile North of U.S. Route 224 on state Route 534, Berlin Center. Will include tethered hot-air balloon rides from 4 p.m. until dusk Saturdays and Sundays; Costume Party on Oct. 31; live band, Vegas and DJ Donny and food concessions. Portion of proceeds to benefit Easter Seals. Open 5 p.m. Fridays; 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through Nov. 1 when it will conclude with a laser light and fireworks show. Cost: $8 for adults, $6 for 12 and under.
Halloween at the Morley: The fright-free fun kicks off at 6 p.m. Oct. 18 with the "mummy" wrap competition for families followed by the pie-eating contest for adults. Visit the extinct species graveyard or walk along the Superstition Trail where you'll get some candy from a friendly witch. Enjoy the magic and illusions of Joseph Glenn at 6:30 p.m. Children of all ages will want to come dressed for the costume contest at 7:15 p.m. Held at the Mill Creek MetroParks Judge Morley Pavilion in the Wick Recreation Area.
Second Annual Fall Festival: Youngstown State University Cafaro Dormitory, 5-8 p.m. Oct. 30. Will include a nutritious meal, face painting, story telling, mummy wrapping and trick or treating. Reservations are required by contacting Boys or Girls Club. Space is limited.
Haunted Lake Trail: Sponsored by Craig Beach and Milton Township Fire departments, at Lake Milton State Park Parking Lot, Grandview Road, (330) 654-3829. 7-11 p.m. Oct. 17, 18, 24 and 25 and 6-11 p.m. Oct. 31. Donation: $3 per person. Handicap- and stroller accessible.
26th Annual Witch Walk: "The Woods" in front of Glenwood Middle School, 7-9 p.m. Oct. 18, 19, 25 and 26. Sponsored by Boardman High School Art Department. New features: Patrick The Starfish, Spongebob Squarepants. Admission, $2 per person. Children under the age of 3 are admitted free.
Aut Mori Grotto's Haunted Hayride: 7209 W. Calla Road, Canfield. 7-11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 7-9 p.m. Sundays, starting Friday through Oct. 25. Adults, $5. Children 12 and under, $3. Group rates available. (330) 793-3303.
Great Pumpkin Carve-out Contest: Boardman Park, Route 224. 6-10 p.m. Friday, noon to 10 p.m. Saturday, next Sunday. Please bring carving tools and newspapers. Small charge for pumpkins. Prizes awarded in all age categories.
Haunted Hayrides: Boardman Park, Route 224. 6-10 p.m. Oct. 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 26. Lighted pumpkins on display, storytellers and sing-along, Jocko the Clown and balloon art, bonfire and marshmallow roast, food concessions.
Haunted House, Haunted Hayride and Haunted Maze: Canfield Scaregrounds (fairgrounds), U.S. Route 46, Canfield. Hours: 7-10 Thursdays and Sundays, 7-midnight Fridays and Saturdays, through Nov. 1. Haunted House cost: $8.50 for adults, $5 for ages 6-10; haunted hayride and corn maze: $7 for adults, $5 for ages 6-10; Combo deal: $10 for adults, $7 ages 6-10. Ages 5 and under, free, but not recommended.
TRUMBULL COUNTY
Ohio 1803-2003 Corn Maize and Hayrides: Ridgeview Farm, 5488 Kinsman Road (state Route 87), Mesopotamia. (440) 693-4000. Celebrating Ohio's 200th Birthday, featuring eight presidents in corn maize. Hayride features a trip to the petting zoo. Corn maize open 7 days a week, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 31; Hayrides are noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 26. COLUMBIANA COUNTY
Haunted Hayride: Sponsored by Salem Area Browns Backers across from Salem Hills Golf Course, 12751 Salem-Warren Road, (Route 45), Salem. Dusk to midnight Saturday, Oct. 18, 25 and dusk to 10 p.m. today, next Sunday, Oct. 19, 26. Hot food and beverages. Cost $6. Children under 5 are admitted free. Group rates available. Halloween Night Party: Dusk to midnight Oct. 31, also sponsored by Salem Area Browns Backers. Prizes for best costume. Winners of 50/50 drawing picked. Cost $8 for adults, $5 for children under 10.
Hayrides to "you pick" pumpkin patch: Detwiler Farm, 4520 Renkenberger Road, Columbiana, one mile west of Route 46, five miles south of Canfield, and two miles north of Columbiana. Also: straw maze, four-acre cornfield maze, petting zoo, fall decorations, apples and cider. Noon to 5 Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 26. AREA EVENTS
Haunted House: Ghoul Mansion, downtown Sharon, Pa. 7-10 Thursdays and Sundays, 7-midnight Fridays and Saturdays, through Nov. 1. Haunted House cost: $8.50 for adults, $5 for ages 6-10; Ages 5 and under, free, but not recommended.
Fall Pumpkin Fest: Conneaut Lake Park, Pa. Route 618, Conneaut, Pa., Friday through next Sunday. Will include crafters, kid and adult rides, games, unicyclist, juggler, fire-eater, strolling musicians, pumpkin painting for kids and adults, pizza and pumpkin pie eating championships, Chinese auction, line dancing, chalk drawing and more. Pumpkin parade, 10 a.m. Oct. 11 downtown Conneaut Lake.
Lantern Tour of the Ghosts of Zoar: Zoar Village, state Route 202, three miles east of Exit 93 off of Interstate 77. Tours are Friday and Saturday evenings until Nov. 1. Fright Fest, Haunted Houses and Concerts: Six Flags World of Adventure, 1060 N. Aurora Road, Aurora. Open 6 p.m. to midnight Fridays; noon-midnight Saturdays; noon to 10 p.m. Sundays through Oct. 31; noon to 10 p.m. Nov. 1; noon to 6 p.m. Nov. 2. Cost is $39.99 if over 54 inches tall. Under 54 inches, $24.99. Haunted houses, $10 to visit all for as many times as you like for the evening. Kiddie Trick or Treat Trail, noon to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays only.
Phantom Fright Nights: Kennywood, 4800 Kennywood Blvd., West Mifflin, Pa. 6 p.m. to midnight Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 25. Cost, $17.50. Not recommended for children under 13. Masks not permitted.
