Spending, contracts
The city's board of control approved these items Thursday:
A $2.17 million contract to A.P. O'Horo of Liberty to build a bridge spanning the Ohio Works Industrial Park at Division Street, which will service the industrial park.
A two-year contract with FirstEnergy Solutions, Akron, for the city to buy electricity in bulk. City residents and businesses that don't opt out can expect their electric bills to drop about 5 percent by early next year -- about $20 a year in savings for households and $70 to $150 for businesses.
Severance of $1,177 for Arthur C. Beck, a flow control technician in the sewer department who was fired Sept. 19 for failing to show up for work, the law department said.
Severance of $1,832 for Thomas Lagese, a mechanic foreman in the fire department who retired July 25.
A $4,187 facade renovation loan for Gino's Drive Thru on Midlothian Boulevard.
Buying two cars from the state surplus list for the fire department, not to exceed a total of $9,700.
A $37,900 letter of credit for Underwood Associates of Youngstown, for use as a performance bond on the Harding Elementary School project.
A $12,964 payment to K.T. Lyden Construction of Youngstown for emergency cleaning of a drainage ditch at Kensington Street and Logan Avenue.
A $4,649 payment to L.E.C. Inc. of Liberty for emergency repair of a catch basin on Pasadena Avenue.
