Watsons' 50th anniversary is observed
XYOUNGSTOWN -- The 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Okie Watson, 2910 Jean St., formerly of Struthers, was celebrated during a trip to Indiana with friends at the end of September and will also be observed during a family gathering the weekend of Oct. 10.
Mr. Watson and the former Cathy Walters were married on that date in 1953 at Struthers United Presbyterian Church.
They have three children, Chrisdell Karis of New Middletown, John Watson of Youngstown and Jeff Watson of Struthers, and seven grandchildren.
Mrs. Watson was employed in the maintenance department with Pinellas County Schools in Seminole, Fla., prior to retiring in 1996.
Mr. Watson served with the U.S. Army. He retired from Youngstown Sheet and Tube in 1978, where he was a machine operator, and in 1995 from Pinellas County Schools, where he was a supervisor in the maintenance department. He is a member of the Elks.
The couple are members of the United Church of Christ, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
