Scarpines feted on 50th anniversary



XYOUNGSTOWN -- In celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Scarpine, 934 E. Florida Ave., were honored Sept. 7 during a Mass held at St. Matthias Church and a reception afterward at the Lockwood House in Boardman.
Invitations for the festivities were issued by their children, Patty Scarpine of Youngstown, Pam Knipple of Austintown, Mary T. Boda of Sunbury, Michael Durkin of Liberty and Timothy Durkin of Boardman, and by Mrs. Scarpine's mother, Mary C. Vitullo.
The former Phyllis Vitullo and Mr. Scarpine, who were married Sept. 7, 1953, at St. Patrick Church, have eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mrs. Scarpine, a homemaker, is a member of the VFW Post 3767 Auxiliary.
Mr. Scarpine retired in 1983 from GATX in Masury, where he was a welder. He is a member of VFW Post 3767, the Northside Club, and the Eagles. He served with the U.S. Navy in World War II and in Korea.
