YOUNGSTOWN -- The seventh annual Peace Award Banquet of the Mayor's Task Force on Crime and Violence Prevention is at 6 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Youngstown Club, 201 E. Commerce St.
The keynote speaker is Robert Woodson, founder and president of the National Center for Neighborhood Enterprise, Washington, D.C., a nonprofit organization that encourages grass-roots efforts to deal with family dissolution, substance abuse and social and economic revitalization of communities.
Sponsored by Help Hotline Crisis Center, the awards banquet will recognize individuals and groups and memorialize slain Youngstown policeman Michael T. Hartzell, and the late Jennie Revere, who was a block watch president.

Program will trainchildren's advocates
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning County Court Approved Special Advocate Program is recruiting community volunteers for fall training.
CASA is a local, state, national and international organization of trained volunteers who represent the best interests of abused and neglected children in Juvenile Court proceedings.
The class is held over six weeks on two Saturdays and five Wednesday evenings.
A background check and fingerprinting are required along with a one-year commitment to advocate for one case as a full party to the proceedings.
Anyone who can spare 10-15 hours per month for a child who needs a voice in court, call the CASA office by Oct. 13 at (330) 740-2239.
