Bank customer is robbed
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 76-year-old city woman told police a gunman robbed her of $200 in a North Side bank parking lot shortly after she cashed a check at the drive-up window.
The woman said that after leaving the drive-up at National City Bank at 2533 Belmont Ave. she pulled aside to count her money and opened her car door to extend her leg because her foot was cramping.
That's when the robber struck at 12:45 p.m. Thursday.
Farmers market
YOUNGSTOWN -- The final Northside Farmers Market of the year will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Elm Street and Illinois Avenue.
The market is to feature fall produce such as pumpkins, squash, apples, cornstalks and cider. Other offerings are to include flowers, fresh rolls and cookies, organically grown coffee and tea and Middle Eastern food.
Children's activities will include a craft table to make masks, photos with a firetruck and a costume parade.
The event is part of a series of four farmers markets at the site from mid-August to mid-September.
Motorcycle club's chili run
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Blue Knights Ohio XXIV law enforcement motorcycle club will hold a chili run Saturday to benefit the Special Olympics programs of Columbiana and Mahoning counties. The ride will begin at 11:30 a.m. at Red Diamonds Uniforms, 4437 Mahoning Ave., Austintown, and end at Headpin Lanes bowling alley, 503 Mulberry St., East Liverpool. Registration will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the starting point. The cost to enter the ride is $10 per rider and $10 per passenger. All legal riders are welcome to participate.
Dealer plates are missing
AUSTINTOWN -- Eight dealer license plates are missing from Austintown Dodge Inc., 5163 Mahoning Ave., and may have been stolen. According to police, an employee discovered the plates missing Sept. 25 but failed to report it until Wednesday. The employee told police she doesn't know whether the plates were attached to automobiles when they disappeared or if they were inside the dealership. She also told police she doesn't know when the plates disappeared and that it might have been before Sept. 25.
Cash, credit card theft
STRUTHERS -- A 10th Street man discovered $3,200 in cash and four business credit cards missing from a truck parked in his driveway after one of the credit card companies notified him about suspected fraudulent activity on his account.
The man told police more than $3,000 had been charged to his account when the credit card company notified him just before noon Wednesday.
According to police, the stolen items were in the vehicle when he parked it about 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Drug raid leads to arrests
YOUNGSTOWN -- Two men were arrested on drug charges when police raided their apartments at 3527 Glenwood Ave. at 4:25 p.m. Thursday. Eugene Ward, 50, faces charges of trafficking in marijuana and illegal possession of a weapon based on a prior drug conviction. Ronald Burley, 20, faces charges of trafficking in marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia (scale). Police confiscated a loaded handgun and loaded shotgun, bags of marijuana and cash.
College Night at mall
NILES -- The Eastwood Mall Complex will host College Night from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in Center Court. Students can meet with admissions officers from more than 75 colleges and universities. A free financial aid seminar will take place at 5:30 p.m. and again at 6:30 p.m. upstairs in the Eastwood Mall Community Room.
Bar association officers
WARREN -- The Trumbull County Bar Association named new officers. Magistrate Deborah E. Marik is president, and Atty. Daniel G. Keating, vice-president. Judge Pamela A. Rintala was named secretary, and Atty. Mark E. Bumstead is the new treasurer. Awards were given to 50-year members of the bar: Atty. Bruce Birrell, Atty. Robert J. Boyd, Atty. David F. McLain, Judge Robert A. Nader and Atty. Paul G. Nader. Judge Robert A. Nader and Judge Lynn B. Griffith Jr. were also given awards for distinguished service to the legal profession.
Fire at Austintown home
AUSTINTOWN -- A home at 66 Rosemont Ave. sustained $10,000 worth of damage after a fire started when a resident dropped a cigarette onto a bed. The fire was reported about noon Thursday and took about an hour to extinguish.
