We don't have to be at the mercy of OPEC

We don't have to beat the mercy of OPEC
EDITOR:
Here we go again! OPEC has decided to cut oil production by about 900,000 barrels a day. The oil barons in league with the world oil cartels are greedily picking our pockets every time we go to the gas pumps, every time we purchase consumer goods, pay utility bills, etc.
Avarice is alive and well! That is truly another form of terrorism directed at destroying our economy and our nation as a whole. Another example of the uneven transfer of wealth from the needy into the coffers of the greedy.
Our elected officials have an insatiable appetite for the lobbyist dollars. Compounding the problem is the fact that our nation is being run by oil magnates. They only offer lip service as far as quelling the obscene profits generated by the oil producers.
The rub is that we have the technology that could divorce us from our dependence on oil and fossil fuels. That technology dates back about 170 years when a British nobleman chronicled his theory of "proton exchange membranes."
In layman's terms, it is known as the "fuel cell." Currently there are a multitude of vehicles operated by the fuel cell. Europe's highways are traveled by the largest majority of fuel cell vehicles due to the fact that gasoline and diesel fuel are about four times more costly than we pay here.
Daimler Benz (parent company of Chrysler Motors) and Ford Motor Co. are heavily invested in a Canadian company that manufactures the fuel cells (PEMs).
Environmentalists are eagerly awaiting the fuel cell to replace the internal combustion engines that spew forth cancer-causing pollution. Fuel cells emit zero pollution! The only products fuel cells generate are electricity, distilled water and heat.
Ford, Chrysler and GM have all produced prototype automobiles that run on fuel cells. I feel that within the next decade, home fuel cells will be found in most households to provide electrical energy to operate every household. No more blackouts! Coleman camping equipment is currently producing fuel cells for campers.
The oil barons are spending large amounts of money to discourage fuel cells on a national scale. They know that the widespread use of this technology will kill their goose that has been laying an overabundance of golden eggs.
If the Middle Eastern nations would spend the money that they have plundered from the rest of the world in peaceful endeavors, they could accomplish much. They could guarantee that the world's population would have plenty to eat, stamp out diseases, stop terrorism and solve many of the problems that confront the human race today.

That fishy smell comingfrom Taft is getting worse
EDITOR:
If it looks like a duck, waddles like a duck, and quacks like a duck, usually it's a duck, except in the case of Gov. Bob Taft and the money the state is paying to fund school construction.
When 89 percent of construction contract money goes to companies that bribed (I mean donated) to the Taft re-election campaign, something smells fishy, and it's not coming from Lake Erie. Not surprising is the denial from the Taft people who claim that it is simply coincidence!
No wonder the public faith in government is on a downward spiral and we look at politicians with a jaundiced eye. How can we expect the state to investigate the MVSD/Gilbane relationship when similar policies are the norm in Columbus? What happened to ethics in government? Are not politicians supposed to go out of their way to prevent even the appearance of a conflict of interest? Apparently, Mr. Taft went to the same school of ethics that Mr. Voinovich and the V Group attended!
