WARREN Folk guitarist to perform as part of arts program
Neil Jacobs' repertoire includes Gypsy and Balkan music.
WARREN -- Guitarist Neil Jacobs will perform at St. Joseph's Church as the first artist for the Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County's new Neighbors series.
The series, which starts at 7 p.m. Monday, is a collaborative project between FACT and the Trumbull County Martin Luther King Dream Team.
Neighbors is patterned after the state's Faith-Based Institution, or FBI, program, which brings secular artists to urban churches throughout the state of Ohio in an effort to connect church congregations with urban residents as well as traditional arts patrons.
"The Fine Arts Council has successfully coordinated two of the five programs through the state's FBI tours," said Bobbie Brown, FACT director. "Based upon that success, we have decided to pattern our local project on the state model."
Both composer and performer, Jacobs transforms his first-hand knowledge of Gypsy, Balkan and world folk music into his own compositions on the 12-string guitar. He currently has three recordings available. Jacobs has previously performed in Warren as part of Opening Night.
FACT is a local not-for-profit arts organization whose mission is to increase the quality of life in the county, by fostering the arts. For more information about the council or the Neighbors series call the FACT office at (330) 399-1212 or check their web page at www.trumbullarts.org.
Funding for Neighbors comes from city's Community Development Block grant fund, the Ohio Arts Council, and the Trumbull County Martin Luther King Dream Team. The Dream Team was organized in 1993, and encourages county residents to celebrate the Martin Luther King holiday in a meaningful way.
