YOUNGSTOWN Jury weighing murder charge in shooting death
YOUNGSTOWN -- Deliberations continued today in the trial of a West Glenaven Avenue man accused of killing a romantic rival last year.
Jesse Driver III, 27, is on trial in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court on a charge of murder. Prosecutors say he killed 24-year-old Charles Green of Lansdowne Boulevard in September 2002.
Jurors heard closing arguments from lawyers Tuesday, after which Judge Robert Lisotto read them instructions of law to guide their deliberation. The panel deliberated more than two hours Tuesday afternoon before being sent home for the evening. Deliberations were to resume this morning.
Police say Driver was angry that Green was dating his girlfriend, Camille Johnson. They said Driver showed up at Johnson's house in the early hours Sept. 1, 2002, and found Johnson and Green sitting in a car in the driveway.
Detective Sgt. Ronald Rodway of the Youngstown Police Department said Driver pulled Johnson out of the passenger seat, reached in with a gun and shot Green in the head, neck and shoulder.
