YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown State University will sponsor and co-sponsor several events in October as part of Diversity Month, including forums on Hispanics as America's minority and on images of Africa.
Other events include introductory workshops on diversity, a Chinese art exhibition, jazz at the Butler Institute of American Art and a discussion of how the major faiths handle issues of birth, marriage and death.
The "Hispanics: America's Largest Minority" forum features a local panel of Hispanic-American scholars and others from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday in the Ohio Room of Kilcawley Center on the YSU campus.
The "Images of Africa: Myth or Reality?" forum features a panel of African scholars and others from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 24, in the Ohio Room.
Neighborhood watchand chili cook-off
VIENNA -- The township neighborhood watch will meet at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 13 at the fire station in conjunction with the annual police and fire departments' chili cook-off.
State Sen. Marc Dann of Liberty, D-32nd, will speak on efforts to save the Youngstown Air Reserve Station, and Fire Chief Rich Brannon will talk about fire prevention.
The block watch meeting begins at 7 p.m.
