BOARDMAN -- Youngstown State defeated St. Francis (Pa.) 6-1 Sunday.
Singles winners were Karen Najbert, Heather Hagood, Gina Peretti. Nicole Muzechuk and Andrea Dixon. Sarah Evans lost at No. 6 singles.

DETROIT -- Detroit defeated YSU 3-0 Sunday.
Kathy Banjavcic, Allison Epple and Megan Husek scored goals for Detroit (4-2, 1-0 Horizon League).
YSU (1-8, 0-1) was outshot 27-3.
Men's golf
RICHMOND, Ky. -- YSU finished ninth of 11 teams as the EKU Colonel Classic was rained out Saturday.
YSU posted a 310-297--607. Carmen DiPenti tied for 22nd with a 148 (75-73). Nate Komsa placed 35th with a 151 (81-70), Josh Zarlenga and Ross Beal tied for 47th with identical rounds of 77-77 for a 154 and Derek Knepper tied for 58th with a 159 (82-77).
Eastern Kentucky won the 36-hole event with a 565.

Tennis seeds
CANFIELD -- Canfield High's Renee Lesnett and Rachel McGowan were seeded second and third, respectively, for the Division I girls sectional tennis tournament, scheduled for Massillon Jackson High Wednesday.
Jacqui Lee of Canton GlenOak was seeded first and Amelia Lamp of Copley was the fourth seed.
Karyn Kovach and Jillian Nard of Canfield were seeded fourth in doubles.
Harris wins by KO
AKRON -- Josh Harris of the Youngstown Buckeye Elks Club knocked out Keyown Graham of Akron in 1 minutes, 49 seconds of the first round in a light heavyweight fight Saturday at the Chaparell Restaurant and Bowling Lanes.
Harris (20-3) stopped Graham with a solid right hook to the stomach and then broke his nose with a smashing right hand and the referee stopped the fight.
Mike West of Buckeye Elks Club trains Harris.

Althea Gibson, 76
EAST ORANGE, N.J. -- Althea Gibson was an intensely private person whose public triumphs and commitment to helping others left an indelible mark on generations of athletes.
Gibson, a sports pioneer who broke tennis' color barrier in the 1950s as the first black entrant and champion at Wimbledon and the U.S. national tournament, died Sunday. She was 76.

* CONOVER, N.C. -- Craig Stadler birdied his first four holes en route to a 6-under 66, overtaking Larry Nelson to win the Greater Hickory Classic.

* Mario Dominguez overcame a fourth-row starting spot to win CART's Grand Prix of the Americas in Miami on Sunday. The win was the second of his career and, coupled with Roberto Moreno's second-place showing, gave Herdez Racing a sweep of the top two spots.
* Michael Schumacher won the U.S. Grand Prix by 18.2 seconds over pole-sitter Kimi Raikkonen on Sunday.
The victory, his second at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and record 70th of his career, raised his lead in the points series. Schumacher can clinch the F1 championship by finishing seventh or better in the season's final race Oct. 12 in Japan.
* Kenny Bernstein won his first Top Fuel race of the season and the 36th of his career Sunday at the CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals at Route 66 Raceway. The $1.6 million race was the 19th of 23 events in the $50 million POWERade Drag Racing Series.
Mackovic fired
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona coach John Mackovic was fired on Sunday, five games into the third season of his tenure. The Wildcats (1-4) lost to No. 19 TCU 13-10 in overtime on Saturday night.
Defensive coordinator Mike Hankwitz will take over as interim coach for the remainder of the season.
