Police identify Sebring man in train death
SEBRING -- Smith Township police have identified a man struck and killed by a train near the Johnson Road crossing as Mark Richmond, 29, of Sebring.
Police think Richmond was living with a sister on East Ohio Avenue here.
Smith Township police Detective Terry Rockwell said a Norfolk & amp; Southern railway official contacted police around 7:42 p.m. Monday to report the westbound train had struck someone. Police found Richmond's body along the tracks about 300 yards west of the Johnson Road crossing.
Railway officials said the train could not be stopped in time to avoid striking Richmond.
The conductor told police Richmond was walking west along the tracks, turned to face the train, put his fists to his head and knelt on the tracks.
The Mahoning County coroner's office and Norfolk & amp; Southern police are investigating.
