COLUMBIANA COUNTY Butler Twp. man indicted in drug ring
The man is accused of being the leader of a drug ring.
LISBON -- A Butler Township man arrested previously in a drug probe has been indicted on several charges by a Columbiana County grand jury.
The grand jury handed up indictments recently against John Stoffer, 40, of Slater Road, charging him with receiving stolen property, obstructing justice, cocaine trafficking, drug possession, three counts of witness intimidation, possession of a dangerous ordnance and complicity to illegal drug manufacturing.
Stoffer was arrested Sept. 4 on cocaine trafficking charges originating in Carroll County.
Brian McLaughlin, director of the Columbiana County Drug Task Force, has said that Stoffer is the ringleader of a drug ring that operated in Columbiana, Mahoning, Carroll and Stark counties.
McLaughlin has estimated that traffickers involved in the ring were doing about $500,000 worth of business a year.
Stoffer also was arrested in August after authorities raided his home.
He was charged then with receiving stolen property based on allegations that $5,000 worth of stolen lumber was found on his land.
