36 high schools to compete for scholarships
YOUNGSTOWN -- Thirty-six high school teams will compete in the second season of "Academic Challenge" beginning at 7:30 p.m. Saturday on WYTV-33.
The teams will represent schools from Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties in Ohio, and Mercer and Lawrence counties in Pennsylvania.
The 30-minute educational quiz show, a partnership between Youngstown State University and Channel 33, will be broadcast at 7:30 p.m. every Saturday through June.
This year, it features 36 high school teams, four times more than the show's first season. Teams compete for a grand prize of $5,000 in YSU scholarships. The winner will receive the Howard W. Jones Trophy, named after YSU's first president.
Participating schools include Campbell Memorial, Mohawk, Champion, Crestview, Canfield, Greenville, Austintown, Reynolds, Leetonia, Girard, Bristol, Sharon, Ursuline, Columbiana, Struthers, Union, Brookfield and Heartland Christian.
Other schools participating are Springfield, Rayen, Liberty, Badger, Neshannock, Warren JFK, Lisbon, Western Reserve, Howland, Jackson Milton, Lordstown, Poland, Salem, South Range, Kennedy Catholic, Cardinal Mooney, Hickory and Sebring.
