NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Freshman cross country runner Laura Davies finished 25th while senior Kurt Michaelis placed 30th Saturday at the Iona Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park.
Davies' 6K time of 22:55.0 led the women to a 16th-place finish while Michaelis paced the men to a 10th place finish by turning in an 8K time of 26:26.1.
Jeremy Riehm finished 54th behind Michaelis with a time of 26:49.7 while Paul Robinette clocked in a 59th-place time of 26:53.5.
Ryan Petrick placed 67th with a time of 27:08 and Nick Buzek finished 78th to round out the top five.
Lindsay Wojciak finished second for the women and 72nd overall with a time of 23:47 while Kim Jendre finished 82nd with a time of 23:59.3.
Freshman Jen Wenhold finished 110th in her first collegiate meet with a time of 24:33.0 while Marielle Glanz's 24:42.5 earned her 114th-place.
The Iona men took home the championship for the second straight season while Princeton claimed the women's top spot.
Volleyball
MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- Despite 16 kills from senior Colleen Royer and winning game one, the Youngstown State volleyball team lost its second straight match to UW-Milwaukee Saturday at the Klotsche Center. The scores were 30-27, 27-30, 19-30 and 26-30.
Royer, who finished with a .452 hitting percentage, laced three aces and record five blocks.
Janelle McDonald collected a team-high 15 digs, freshman Cari Leslie had 15 kills and senior Annie Buschur added eight kills and seven blocks.
YSU also dropped Friday's decision to UW-Green Bay (17-30, 21-30, 21-30).
Royer led the Penguins with eight kills while classmate Annie Buschur added seven kills with three blocks.
The Phoenix outhit the Penguins, .356 to .079, and laced 10 service aces, including seven from senior Janelle Tomlinson. Tomlinson also pounded 11 kills.

Flores to speakat Irish banquet
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Ursuline High School Hall of Fame induction banquet will be Dec. 3 at Mr. Anthony's with nine former athletes slated for induction.
The featured speaker will be Tom Flores, former Oakland Raiders head coach who guided the team for nine seasons, including a Super Bowl victory in 1981 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Inductees for 2003 will be: (football) -- Art Carter, Kevin Ellerbee, Phil Fontanarosa; (basketball) -- John Valley and Patrick McCarthy; (baseball) -- Ken Krainock and James Sotlar; and (track) -- Bryan Cook and (soccer) -- Mike Rogich.

AUSTINTOWN -- The Special Olympics bowling team held in its second-week tournament at Wedgewood Lanes recently.

Hockey night
BOARDMAN --The local chapter of the Mother's Hope Foundation will sponsor the third annual "Hockey Night at the Ice Zone" on Oct. 11.
The charity event is an all-star hockey game between the YSU Penguins Hockey Club and members of the area high school all-star team.
Pittsburgh Penguin alumni players will serve as coaches.
Doors open at 7 p.m. Admission is $5. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Mother's Hope Foundation.
