PREP VOLLEYBALL Poland edges Boardman to claim invitational title



Aubrey Walker served 15 straight points for West Branch.
BOARDMAN -- The Poland High volleyball team won the Boardman Invitational by outlasting the host Spartans 16-14, 16-14 Saturday.
The Bulldogs were paced by Steffi Graf with 33 kills, 13 points and 59 digs. Dee Muransky had 21 points, 33 digs and 25 kills, while Megan Mulligan scored 23 points, with 27 kills and 10 blocks.
The Spartans' Jaclyn Corroto scored 28 points, with 67 assists and 21 digs. Jesse Morris had 28 kills, 31 digs and five points and April Melquist finished with 24 kills and eight blocks.
Howland (13-5) finished third in the tournament, led by Jaime Kelly (15 kills against Columbiana), Brittany Kelly (17 assists against Columbiana) and Julie Griffin (10 points against Massillon Washington).
Chosen to the all tournament team, voted by the coaches, were Howland's Jaime Kelly; Boardman's Corroto, Melquist and Morris; Columbiana's Carly Washinko; Girard's Elise Rosce and Poland's Graf and Mulligan.
West Branch 15-15, Canton Timken 0-3
BELOIT -- Aubrey Walker served a perfect 15 points in the first game as West Branch upended Canton Timken in non-league action in the Warriors' gymnasium.
Walker also had six passes, while teammate Ashley Armstrong scored five points, with three assists and two kills.

BELOIT -- In the second match of the day, Armstrong scored five points, three kills, four assists and a block. Walker had nine points and a save, while Dena New had five points and nine assists.
Fitch wins three
OLMSTED FALLS -- The Falcons, in winning three matches, improved to 13-4.
Jessica Evans scored eight points, with three kills, two blocks, three aces and nine digs in a 15-12, 15-3 decision over Cuyahoga Falls. Maggie Case had seven points, 10 kills, three blocks and 14 digs.
Caitlyn O'Patchen scored five points, with 10 digs and an ace as Fitch topped Padua 15-5, 15-0. Evans and Case had seven points apiece.
Stacie Mang led the Falcons to a 15-3, 15-3 victory over Vermillon with 10 points, 20 assists, three kills, two digs and five aces. Case and Evans each had six points.
Lordstown wins three
LORDSTOWN -- The host Red Devils swept three matches in their quadrangular against Liberty, Leetonia and Niles.
Lordstown defeated Liberty 8-15, 15-8, 17-15 as Christal Israel had 10 points, Samantha Kistler nine points and Janelle Beaver seven points.
Lordstown then defeated Leetonia 15-4, 15-4. Samantha Kistler had 13 points, Amanda Kistler eight points and Laycia Israel three points.
In their third match, the Red Devils stopped Niles 16-14, 16-14 as Israel and Samantha Kistler served six points, and Jennifer Russ added five.
Lordstown (16-1) is the second seed in the Division IV district tournament at Lisbon. Windham is first, Maplewood third and Jackson-Milton fourth.
