NEWTON FALLS -- About 150 members of the Ohio National Guard's 1-107th Armor Battalion are preparing for deployment as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The battalion's Company A is stationed at Newton Falls. Company B is at Highland Hills, and Company C is headquartered at Stow.
Send-off ceremonies are planned for 8 a.m. next Sunday in Highland Hills and 9:30 a.m. in Stow.
The 1-107th will serve with the 30th Brigade from the North Carolina National Guard. Its mission will be to conduct security and stability operations.
Avoiding Costly Mistakes
HUBBARD -- The third in a series of free seminars titled Avoiding Costly Mistakes will focus on health-care planning.
The event is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday in room 114 of Hubbard High School, 150 Hall Ave.
Edward Fabian, a licensed nursing home administrator in Ohio and Pennsylvania, will speak about Medicare, Medicaid, long-term care and more.
Reservations are not required for the seminar, but seating is limited to 75 people.
Relay for Life meeting
LIBERTY -- Liberty Relay for Life will have an informational meeting for the 2004 relay at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the high school community room.
Anyone interested in organizing a team or volunteering should attend.
Next year's Liberty relay is set for May 21-22 at the high school stadium. This year's effort raised $117,000 for the American Cancer Society.

College financing workshop
LIBERTY -- A free workshop, "9 Ways to Beat the High Cost of College," will be presented from 6 to 7:45 p.m. Wednesday in the Liberty Public Library, 415 Churchill-Hubbard Road.
The workshop covers several topics, including how to double or even triple your eligibility for financial aid, how to locate and apply for need-based scholarships, grants and low-interest loans and how to pick colleges that will give you the best financial aid package.

Warren council meeting
WARREN -- City council will meet in special session at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Members had previously set it for Wednesday. Council's engineering committee will meet at 3 p.m. to talk about building demolitions. The finance committee meets at 4 p.m. and is expected to discuss a proposed sewer rate increase.
Buckeye 5 winner
McDONALD -- Patricia J. Miller of McDonald won the $100,000 top prize for matching all five numbers in Thursday's Ohio Lottery Buckeye 5 drawing. She filed the claim in the regional lottery office in Austintown on Friday.
After federal and state tax withholdings, she'll get a check for $71,500, the lottery commission said. She picked her own numbers -- 15-19-25-29-35 -- at Lotto Zone in Girard.
