COLUMBIANA CORNER Bell returned to courthouse
Columbiana County's bicentennial bell has been returned to the lobby of the county courthouse in Lisbon.
The bronze bell was cast this summer at the county fair as part of the state and county's 200th anniversary celebrations and was displayed in the lobby for several weeks using a stand provided temporarily by the company that cast the bell.
But when the stand had to be returned, the 250-pound bell was retired to the commissioners' meeting room.
Enter Amvets Post 45 in Salem, which donated a sturdy stand on which to display the bell, said Commissioner Jim Hoppel.
Hoppel said the organization also wants to build a trailer on which the bell can be transported to events.
Think about this
A local merchant used the sign in front of his store to convey this thought-provoking message. "If you don't think every day is a good day, just try missing one."
