NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Giering's Homemade Ice Cream Shoppe on Main Street in New Middletown took home honors for their vanilla and strawberry ice cream flavors in competition at the National Ice Cream Retailers Association annual meeting in New Orleans. Owners Bob McAllister and Debbie Giering were awarded a red ribbon for their vanilla and a white ribbon for their strawberry. The competition attracted 53 entries from 26 ice cream shop members of the association. The couple opened their shop in the fall of 2002.
CHAMPION -- James C. Williams, owner of Williams Photography in Champion, took 16 honorable mentions for his work recently in the International Wedding & amp; Portrait Photography Competition. The event is held yearly for members of the Wedding & amp; Portrait Photographers International and includes photographers from around the world.
CANFIELD -- Four area residents have been named to the board of directors of the American Cancer Society, Ohio Division.
Donald Jay Bice of Warren, a senior package engineer at Delphi Packard Electric Systems, is president of the Trumbull County board of directors and an advisor for the Cortland Relay for Life.
Dr. Robert Brodell, a dermatologist with a practice in Warren, has served in a variety of capacities, including as co-chairman of the Warren Relay for Life and as past president of the Trumbull board.
Deborah Dashko, a registered nurse from Poland, is first vice president of the Mahoning County board. An oncology nurse at Forum Health in Youngstown, she is on the Boardman Relay for Life planning committee.
Dr. Robert DeMarco, chairman of the Boardman Relay and president of the Mahoning County board, is a pulmonary physician in Boardman.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The International Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy Association has accepted Karen Willner, owner of Karen's Lifestyle Concepts at 3200 Belmont Avenue, as a certified member of the association. Willner is a registered dietitian and a hypnotherapist who works in the fields of weight management and smoking cessation. The Michigan-based association, which offers a referral service of certified members to health care practitioners and the general public.
