Baseball signings
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown State baseball coach Mike Florak signed three players to compete for the Penguins.
Pitchers Lucas Engle and Ryan Sellman and first baseman Jason Coffey will begin their college careers next fall.
Engle went 7-3 as a junior at Marysville High School. Sellman has a career ERA of 2.42 at Twinsburg High.
Coffey, of Louisville, Ky., attends Lincoln Trail Community College in Robinson, Ill.
Tennis signings
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown State women's tennis coach Michele Grim signed Michelle Fuleky and Emily Thayer to play for the Penguins.
Thayer, of Charleston, W.Va., won the West Virginia state championship in 2003 and Fuleky, of Pickerington, qualified for the Ohio state tournament.

Turkey Trot winners
CANFIELD -- The Second Annual Pre Turkey Trot road race was attended by 243 runners.
The proceeds of the race are used to fund two scholarships given to local runners to attend Youngstown State University. The scholarships are given by the Youngstown Roadrunners Club.
The overall winners for the men were: A.J. Crisucci, Brian Laraway (a previous scholarship winner) and Dan Forbes. The overall winners for the women were: Laura Kaulen, Penny Felger and Nicole Drouhard.
DeMonaco namedPAC player of week
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Mark DeMonaco, a sophomore on the Westminster College basketball team from New Castle High, has been named Presidents' Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
DeMonaco, a 5-foot-6 guard in his first season with Westminster after transferring from La Roche College, led the Titans to runner-up honors in the Buzz Ridl Classic last week.
DeMonaco averaged a team-high 21.5 points and seven rebounds in the two-game meet. He had 21 points in Westminster's win over Philadelphia Bible and followed with 22 points in an 81-65 loss to Centre.

NEW WILMINGTON -- Three Youngstown-area players on the Westminster College football team have been selected to the All-Presidents' Athletic Conference First Team.
Named on offense were Glenn Silvidi, a senior guard from Hubbard High, and Brian Ekis, a senior wide receiver from Boardman. Picked to the defense was Don Waldron, a junior end from Lakeview.
Making the second team were offensive linemen Jim Chaney, a senior from Hubbard, and Phil Frye, a junior from Mineral Ridge.
Gaining honorable mention were Aaron Detwiler, a senior offensive guard from Poland; Ryan Mitchell, senior fullback from Warren Harding; and Joe Getsy, junior quarterback from Lowellville.
Ekis caught 58 passes this season for a school-record 927 yards. He also set a school single-game record for catches with 13 for 221 yards against Thomas More. Waldron had 59 tackles, including 27 solo stops.
Thiel playerspicked for PAC
GREENVILLE -- Kennard Davis, a junior free safety for the Thiel College football team from Farrell High, has been named to the Presidents' Athletic Conference All-Conference First Team for the third straight year.
Davis, who had three interceptions this season to break the school career record with 17, was one of several Thiel players from the Youngstown area making All-PAC.
Robert Drake of Chaney High and Nelton Neal of Warren Harding also were named to the first team. Drake, a junior linebacker, ranked No. 4 in tackles for Thiel with 50.
Juston Napotnik, a senior running back from Sharpsville High, made the second team. He ranks No. 3 in career rushing for Thiel with 2,192 yards, and also is No. 3 in rushing attempts with 495.
Brandon Chambers, a sophomore wide receiver and return specialist from Farrell High, gained honorable mention at both positions.
Chambers had 34 receptions for 652 yards and six touchdowns, and averaged 13.4 yards in punt returns to rank No. 19 in NCAA Division III. He also had 118.9 all-purpose yards to rank No. 2 in the PAC.
West Branch graduatehonored by OAC
ALLIANCE -- Laura Bandy, a sophomore midfielder for the Mount Union College soccer team from West Branch High, has been named to the 2003 Women's Soccer Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference Team as an honorable mention.
Bandy, who was Mount Union's second-leading scorer this year with six goals, has a 3.58 grade-point average as a physical education major.
Two of Bandy's teammates also were honored. Jessica Gordon, a senior forward, made the first team, while Jen Boyd, a junior defender, was an honorable mention.
Gordon, who led MUC in scoring with 18 points, including eight goals, has a 3.76 GPA in biology. Boyd has a 3.74 GPA in mathematics.
Fitch graduate namedto regional team
TWINSBURG -- Jess DiCarlo, a sophomore outside hitter for the Mount Union College volleyball team from Austintown Fitch High, was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association Great Lakes Region Team.
DiCarlo led the Ohio Athletic Conference in kills percentage with .355 on 498 kills and 85 errors in 1,162 attempts.
She also ranked No. 4 in kills per game with 3.83 on 498 kills in 130 games played.
