LOCAL COLLEGES Thiel's first win is over LaRoche



Westminster College's teams were beaten.
PITTSBURGH -- A free throw by freshman guard Chris Kwolek with no time remaining Tuesday gave Thiel College a 77-76 win over LaRoche.
The Tomcats were awarded a pair of free throws when LaRoche called a timeout it didn't have late in the game.
The Tomcats (1-2) had four players score in double figures, led by junior guard Daryl Moore's 17 points.
Juniata 83,Westminster 62
HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Westminster saw its record drop to 1-2 as the Titans suffered a non-conference setback at Juniata (2-1). Craig Biller led the way for Juniata with a game-high 28 points. For Westminster, junior forward Pat O'Connor bucketed a team-high 19 points.
Bethany 88, Pitt-Greensburg 77
BETHANY, W.Va. -- Matt Drahos poured in 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Bethany (2-1) defeated Pitt-Greensburg (0-3). Mike Drahos added 21 points and 12 rebounds for the winners.
Saint Vincent 90, Slippery Rock 69
LATROBE, Pa. -- Tony Washam led five players in double figures with 29 points as Saint Vincent defeated Slippery Rock (1-3) to remain unbeaten after five games.
Women
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Thiel College dropped its home opener Tuesday, falling to Carnegie Mellon University 62-56. Thiel sophomore Heather Abate finished with a game-high 16 points. Junior center Adrienne Mowry of Struthers added 12 points and five rebounds.
Pitt-Greensburg 63, Westminster 56
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Westminster fell to 1-2, as the Titans suffered a non-conference setback to visiting Pitt-Greensburg (2-1) in their home opener. Annie Sral posted a game-high 15 points for Pitt-Greensburg. Junior guard Alyson Gasper scored a team-high 13 points for Westminster.
Bethany 82, Penn State-Behrend 58
BETHANY, W.Va. -- Bethany (2-1) placed four players in double figures in its rout of Penn State-Behrend (1-2). Leading the way for Bethany were Sherelle Vossen with 14 points, Jenny Place with 13, Nikki Babik with 12 and Kelley Richardson with 11.
West Virginia Wesleyan 49, Slippery Rock 41
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Frances Carvajal had 13 points and 15 rebounds to lead West Virginia Wesleyan (3-1) past Slippery Rock (1-2). The Rock were led by Stacey Green with 12 points and Kristin Bonner with 10.
Mount Union 73, Kenyon 59
GAMBIER -- Ashley Bourdeau had 24 points and 17 rebounds as the Purple Raiders (2-1) defeated Kenyon (2-1). Kyla Hogan added 17 points for Mount.
